Fostering at WCAHS

Fostering is an opportunity to help us learn more about an animal so it can be more appropriately placed or give an animal a “break” from a sometimes stressful shelter environment.  By fostering, no matter what the outcome, you can take pride in knowing that you made a difference in an animal’s life!  While in your care, we hope to learn information about this pet that may be extremely beneficial in placing the animal in the most compatible home possible.  This also reduces the chance of it being returned to the shelter.  With the large number of animals coming into the shelter, you not only relieve the stresses on the animals but you also relieve many stresses of the shelter staff that do their best to provide the best possible care to each and every pet.

There is no payment more gratifying or rewarding in doing a job that is re-paid with a huge sloppy “kiss” a contented purr or a “mess” on your carpet with a head hung low saying “you love me and understand, no matter what my faults are.”  Your patience and understanding will help them become the most adoptable pet they can be!

If you are interested in fostering, please contact the shelter for more information.  You will be asked to fill out a pre-adopt application.  This will provide us with information about you and your family so we can hopefully have the most successful “foster” situation possible.  If you do not own your home landlord approval is required.

WCAHS sincerely thanks you for considering the challenge and responsibility of providing foster care to an animal in need!

Volunteer at WCAHS

HELP THEM! Become a volunteer. You can walk a dog. Play with or simply brush a dog or cat . The point is, the animal needs a break. He needs company, he needs to know there's more than just four fences surrounding him.

If you feel more comfortable doing office work, washing dishes, folding laundry by all means come and do it! You'll be freeing up a shelter worker's time to do something with the animal. To become a volunteer just come to the shelter, fill out a simple form and start!

Aluminum Can Recycling

A recycling bin is located at the west end of the shelter parking lot.   Bagged cans can be dropped off there at any time.  The money collected is used for the continuing care of the animals and maintenance of the shelter.

Purina Weight Circles

We continue to use the Purina weight circles from both cat and dog food and we truly appreciate getting both. These weight circles bring us discounts on dog and cat food and veterinary services. Thank you everyone who collects these for us and either delivers or sends them to the shelter.
